Introducing my “Segway-Ninebot” Kickscooter Max; 350 raging Watts of electric motor to the rear wheel (as God intended) propelling it to a top speed of 18.5 MPH . This cool machine has a 551Wh battery giving a hypothetical max range of 40 miles (real world? Prob more like 30 or less the way i’ll prob drive it). Features include, regenerative braking, headlight, tailight, cruise control, different drive modes for more power or range, built in charger so only a cord needed, aaaand folding handle for easy carrying.
I bought it for several reasons:
1. It fills a role at work perfectly. I am in IT and respond to tickets around campus all the time, Ford Transits are handy for hauling more supplies but the majority of tickets dont require anything more than what i can carry in our backpacks. Walking is encouraged and i now have permission to use bicycle and scooter. Bicycle is awesome of course because of exercise but on warm days i dont want to show up to a customers office all hot and sweaty. Plus the hills in this town can be ferocious for relaxed biking.
2. Lunch time or really anytime i need to head into town center or campus area, parking is at a premium and downright hard to find at times. This eliminates those concerns as i can park it at one of the numerous bike racks all over town.
3. A secondary vehicle, inside my car. This thing will (even with conservative estimates) get me all the way home from work. If i ever break down, run out of gas, even need to bug out of town and cant get the car out if we wanna go all walking dead in here, lol. I can drive all the way back to my house, work, gas station, wherever.
4. An electric vehicle goes along with my long term plan to maximize energy independence. Eventually i want to get solar panels (once i get a spot of land and a little house built). This scooter gives me the flexibility to still have some backup transportation in a variety of scenarios where driving a car is either too costly, or just not possible for whatever reason.
Im excited to dive into this and will be giving a detailed review in the future as my ownership goes along. A coworker and i have been pushing for a while for electric vehicles such as this for the university and as a result (At my managers request) i will be heading up a proposal and report that will explore and test departmental needs, risks, and rewards, for acquisition and use of e-scooters/e-bicycles. Should be an exciting time.
P.S. I got my car back and everything works again minus the fog light. Will post about it tomorrow! Feels nice to have my own wheels again.

Neat. Having never ridden one, I’m curious to know what it is like. How does it handle going up hills?

Pretty well honestly! I haven’t driven this one up any steep inclines yet but I have driven the weaker “SPIN” rental scooters up a hill and it did just fine. The very very steep hill I used my foot to assist in much the same way one would with an un powered scooter on level ground and while significantly slower it was still much easier and faster than walking.

Hey, my guess was right. I personally would rather have a bike, but I also don’t run between buildings a bunch.
